The Color Purple :)

Imperialism is when a stronger nations opresses a weaker one. The country or nation would try and take over another by territorial acquisition or even by using other tactics that have to do with there economoy or even politically. There are many movies that can be compared to imperialism but one that stands out the most to me would have to be the movie The Color Purple.
In the movie The Color Purple it mostly takes place in Georgia but there are scenes that take place in Africa that have to do with Nettie, Cellie's sister. In this part of the movie an African tribe is being destroyed by European imperialists. The Europeans wanted to gain control of that part of Africa.  This part of the movie relates to the concept because the Eauropean was trying to opress Africa which was the smaller nation and trying to take control over it. The europeans felt as if they had the strength to overpower them.
I have seen this movie many times and the situation relates perfectly to when other countries try to take power over another because they feel they are more powerful. Also, this may relate to when a ruler or someone wants to gain control over a country. For example, when Hitler tried to take over Europe. He felt as if he had more power and could control them. But as it turned out in the beginning he began to gain power but lost it once he made a false move. This goes to show that sometimes moves towards imperialism do not work out all the time to its best ability.

Video Game Violence !

If you ever played any video games that portray war or to be more specific, games such as Call of Duty that have lots of violence and shooting. Do you think you will go out to the real world and try these same things ? No I think that most people would have the common sense to know, what is right and what is wrong. I dont think that games that have events that occur in the war should be banned.
If that was the situation and video games would be banned because of the violence they diminish. Then things such as cigarettes should be banned because of the deaths that it causes amongst others. In the article that discusses the situation of how the video game Moderm Welfare is similiar to the actual war states,  that the game is just pure fiction on the blips of a screen. If it is pure fiction people should be able to distinguish the difference and know not to be violent and how to control themselves even when not playing the game. It also should be allowed because people should be able to see something similiar to what occurs during the war. They get to experience the feeling of not knowing what will occur next so they may get that terrified feeling of losing against their opponent like the soldiers actually do feel, except it is actually occuring to them. The difference is there isnt a reset button or something to let the soldiers know where their enemies are coming from but then again the game is just for the entertainment of others and for people to enjoy playing.

Ready ! Set ! DogFight !

During the Cold War the pilots would have to fight air to air combat. If I was the pilot flying that plane I would be saying my prayers and hoping for the best. My state of mind while flying the plane would be being invincible because then I would have the confidence to defeat the other pilots. While being in the air though I think the pilots would of been scared for their lives and would not know what to expect to happen because their opponents could be unpredictable. Since the pilots are trained some may not have that much of a fear to fight the other planes.

From Letters to Cell phones

Technology today is not what it used to be before. Imagine having to send a letter to one of your loved ones and having to wait weeks or even months for them to respond. Everyone now is so used to having things instantly. When you send a text message within a few seconds the other person receives it. If you want to call someone, you can talk to them within seconds and let them know about everything that is occuring. During the World War 1 many people would send their family members or even their husbands or wifes letters to see how everything was going and to inform them on information. If I was in this situation like in one of the letters written in World War 1 by a dad to his son Russell.  I would of been anxious and nervous to see how my family had been doing and wondering what was going on and if anything bad was happening to them. The dad that was in the war writing the letter was probably frustrated because he did not get a response soon enough because hee continued to write letters to his sons even though he did not receive a response.

Manipulation of SOA !

The SOA, which is the School of Americas, is a program that trains soldiers with many different techniques such as sniper training and psychological warfare. The United States should not be able to operate such an organization. The program could cause future problems to the U.S. because other leaders and people from the countries may get angry and want to rebel. It encourages the soldiers that are trained to things like being able to massacre, assassinate and rape others. They even force people into to refugee, which should not be allowed. Shouldn't you be allowed to choose what you would like to do with your future ? Why cause more problems with other countries ? I feel that the SOA is a unnecessary organization, that the U.S. shouldn't condone.

Yellow Journalism and it's flaws !

The burning of the curran is a perfect example of exploiting a certain situation and making it bigger than what it really was . All of the news reporters made this one of the top headlines. People from different areas where even going to take the time to visit for this event that was morally uncalled for. News stations such as CBS made this a huge deal and announced it to the world. It became such a popular topic that even in my high school was buzzing about the situation. Almost every class that I had been too was discussing this event. This relates to how yellow journalism was used in the Spanish American War because the press had driven this war and made it a bigger situation then what it had originally been.

Blogging is Better !

Blogging is better than just having to use paper and pen. When blogging you get the opportunity to share all of your thoughts and you get the option to write about different topics that are discussed in class or about things that have to do with history. I think it is an easier and more efficient way than having to use paper and pen. If I had to just use paper and pen, I wouldn't be as motivated to write about the topics that were given. Also, when we have to add a picture to our blogs to help describe or show what the topic is about it is faster than having to draw something out or even having to print and paste it on to your writings.

Number One Topic !

My favorite topic of the first quarter would have to be when we had to blog about why are stereoypes widely known by so many in society. This was the best topic to blog about to me because I got to express my opinion on a situation that I knew a lot about. I also enjoyed this topic because it is something that is going on today in society and I believe it should be changed for many reasons. It was also a easy topic for me to write about because we had also went over the topic in class.

Ellis Island

When looking at the pictures of Ellis Island I realized many things . It seemed as if many of the immigrants were happy to come to the United States but were scared of what may occur or what might happen with their lives once they got to the U.S. They may have been happy because they have reached a place that they would have more opportunities in but they would have been scared or overwhelmed because many other people were trying to come to the same area. This would of probably been a situation that they alll had mixed emotions with.

Exhaustion

The textile factory workers had to work harder than usual. After hearing the lyrics of the "Song of the Shirt" it showed that the workers had lots of things to accomplish. The workers fingers would be weary and worn from working so much in the factories. They probably did not have time to spend with family or even time to do things they enjoyed. The song also describes the horrible conditions that the factory workers had to deal with such as working in poverty, hunger and dirt. They would not get time to be on break to eat  lunch as many workers do today. They had to work in unsanitary conditons, and until their eyes were heavy and red. Overall the conditions they had to work in were probably the worst that anyone would ever have to deal with.

Rocky Racoon

In the song by The Beatles called Rocky Racoon, they do portray the wild west. The song was about a young man named Rocky who's woman had ran off with another guy. Rocky then gets into a confrontation with the other man and loses. I think the song does portray the wild west because their was many men in the wild west and they had few woman, so most likely men would get into fights about such things. Also, it talks about them fighting in a saloon which was typical in the wild west. In the west they also were allowed to do as they pleased because there was few laws. Therefore, I would agree that the song is accurate about these events occuring.

North And South's Outlook

This image shows  that the North and South had perceived the actions that Lincoln had took differently from one another. The South thought of it as bad thing and wanted to begin to fight and cause chaos. While the North on the other hand thought it would create peace and they agreed with his decisions.

Amnesty for the South !

During the reconstruction I think the South should have been granted amnesty. Lincoln just wanted to grant the Southerners forgiveness for their transgressions. I believe he should have because everyone deserves a second chance to start over and begin something new. If he granted them amnesty then he could continue with his reconstruction plan and this would have helped to bring the North and South together as one.

"That government is best which governs least"

The quote stated by Thoreau when he said, "that government is best which governs least" means that if the government lets the citizens have a voice and a say in what occurs  more often rather than the government just making all of the decisions on their own, we would have a prosperous government. I agree with this quote to a certain extent because then the government will have a better say on what the people want and we would have more freedom and say on what goes on in the world and they will not govern every aspect of our lives. I also disagree because some people may take advantage of this and create many problems which will affect the lives of others. I believe the government and the citizens should have an equal amount of say on what goes on in the world.

Why is that so many people are judged ?

In today's society, just by looking at someone, people quickly jump to conclusions and always assume how a perosn may act and judge them by their appearance. If they actually took the time to get to know one another before judging, they would realize others are not what they seem to be. Do you know what it's called ? It would be considered a stereotype, Just because of ones nationality someone would have negative comments or assume what the person is all about, like if someone saw an Irish person, they would quickly assume, that person is a drunk and loves to drink alcohol, which may not be true. But because of the way society was before, like when segragation had occured and blacks were separated from the whites because of their skin color, and many whites judged african americans and thought they were superior to them. A stereotype is also so widely accepted by many so they continue to judge and it will always remain a problem in society but not as problematic as before, like when segregation occured or when hitler believed that his race was better then the jews.

Without History what would this world be ?

Does history matter ? Of course history matters, history is one of the most important and significant things that we base our studies off of today. If history did not exist we would not know things such as when our independence day was and how we gained things, like our freedom. History is the main source from where people such as scientist gain their background knowledge of how our world used to be and what existed. History most importantly shows us how we came to the point we are in the world today. It also helps to figure the outcome of what the future might hold and what to expect to see, like they say history repeats itself, so with the knowledge of what went on before you may be able to predict what could occur in the future.

History Lies

"History is the lie that is commonly agreed upon" which was stated by Voltaire. This statement had a very significant meaning, what Voltair was trying to portray by saying this was that , the history that is taught today is mainly based off of lies but people go along with what they are told so this is what is being passed on from generation to generation. Since the truth is not told in many textbooks and teachers already have been teaching the false facts, they have not made an effort to teach what the truth really is. History would be considered a lie because the writers that would state things that occured in the wars, would be the ones who have won the battles and how things were outlooked from their perspective, you don't get to see the point of view or to hear the side of the others who have lost in battle. You do not get to see their view because many of them would have been murdered, so their story would not be told. Therefore, you do not know all the facts of what occured during that time period, you only know what occured on what was decided to be told to the public eye.
